Why choose Copenhagen for a European rail trip?
Copenhagen is one of the rewarding stops to consider in Denmark. Discover Nyhavn, spend time around Tivoli Gardens and include Christiansborg Palace if your visit allows. The Interrail Global Pass can help link this stop with other participating rail destinations when the chosen train is eligible.
If you have a flexible pass, decide whether Copenhagen is a daytime sightseeing stop or a place to spend the night; using an extra travel day for a short transfer is not always the best value.
What to see and do in Copenhagen
- Nyhavn
- Tivoli Gardens
- Christiansborg Palace
Choose the sights that suit your available time in Copenhagen. Check admission, opening days and local travel separately; attraction tickets are not included with the Interrail Global Rail Pass.
Arriving in Copenhagen by train
Main rail gateway: København H. The actual station for your journey depends on the train and route. Verify whether the pass covers your operator, and inspect the platform and service information shortly before departure.
From station to sightseeing
The city metro and buses normally require their own fares. A pass does not generally include city metros, trams, sightseeing buses or attraction admissions unless a specific benefit says otherwise.
A practical one- or two-day sightseeing plan
After arriving in Copenhagen, allow time to reach your accommodation or arrange luggage storage. Choose one main sightseeing area rather than assuming every attraction is beside the station. For example, compare the locations of Nyhavn and Tivoli Gardens before fixing the order of your visit. For an overnight stop, keep some time free before your next departure and avoid tight connections with timed admission tickets.
Staying overnight can make sense if the city has several attractions or if your next connection leaves early. For a shorter stopover, verify luggage storage, opening hours and how far the sights are from the station.
Using the Interrail Global Pass for Copenhagen
DSB serves core routes and regional links. Check connections across Zealand, Funen and Jutland, and the border to Sweden.
International and selected busy trains may require or recommend reservations; verify operator-specific rules. Add each required journey to the mobile pass in accordance with the current instructions and keep seat reservation documents separately available when necessary. Pass validity is not a guarantee of a seat.
